Grass Head
This project is fantastic for teaching kids about plant growth, responsibility, and of course, unleashing their inner artist!
Make your own:
- Plant Your Seeds! Fill your plastic pot about 3/4 full with potting soil. Sprinkle a generous amount of grass seeds on top of the soil. Don’t be shy – more seeds mean a fuller “hairdo”! Gently cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. We did 2 layers of grass seed!
- Give it a Drink! Water your newly planted seeds until the soil is damp. We use a spray bottle to avoid washing away the seeds!
- Decorate Your Face! This is where the real fun begins! Use craft glue or a glue gun to attach your embellishments to create your face. Get creative with pipe cleaners for glasses, ears, or even silly antennae! Let your imagination run wild!
- Find Your Sunshine! Place your decorated pot in a bright, sunny spot, like a windowsill. Grass loves light!
- Watch it Grow! Keep the soil consistently damp by watering it every day or two. You’ll start to see little green sprouts in just a few days! It’s so exciting to watch the “hair” grow longer and longer. We love this project because the grass grows so quickly!
- Time for a Haircut! Once your grass head’s “hair” is nice and long, it’s time for a trim! Grab some age appropriate scissors and give your grassy friend a stylish new haircut. You can even experiment with different styles!
- Voila!
